How to update SA30 firmware manually

This article describes a number of methods on how to update the SA30 firmware. Please note the last step is essential for the update: the unit MUST be restored to factory defaults and any setup changes made again after an update.

Post upgrade

After the firmware upgrade Google Cast has to be reconfigured. If you do not reconfigure Google Cast then you won’t be apply to cast to the SA30 through Google Cast. Refer to the next article how to reconfigure Google Cast:

I found the resolution for the issue in the topic start. After opening the Google Home app, go to SA30 settings and enable the dynamic range settings. The SA30 is listed again under Google Cast devices in Music Life and all other Google Cast enabled apps (e.g. mPlayer Lite, Plex, etc). It seems after a SA30 device upgrade you have to apply the SA30 settings in Google Home app. Maybe this is information can be added to any relevant manual/instruction? Transitioned to closed.

To update via USB (recommended)

1. Requires firmware version V1.06 (build 323) or later to be installed on the SA30.
2. The USB stick should be empty and freshly formatted.
3. Unzip the file “SA30 image.zip” and copy the “image.swu” file onto a memory stick (so it is the only file on the stick).
4. Turn on the SA30 & wait until fully started.
5. Insert the stick into the USB socket on the rear of the SA30.
6. Navigate to the System Settings > USB Update menu option and select it on the front panel until the front display shows NET UPDATING.
7. Wait around 10 minutes for the update to complete, do NOT power off during this time.
8. Once the update has finished as indicated by Update Complete on the front panel display perform a Factory Reset using the System Settings > Net Reset and System Settings > System Reset menu options. *

To update via the internet/network:

There are three options available to update the SA30 via the network/internet.

• Manual update
• Manual Check with automatic installation
• Automatic Over The Air (OTA)

Manual Update

1. Unzip the file “SA30 image.zip” and save to a known location.
2. Use a browser (chrome, firefox or safari is recommended) and navigate to the IP address of the unit (Menu > System Info).
3. Click “Device Settings”.
4. Click “Reboot” in the “Reboot device to the update mode” menu.
5. When prompted select the “image.swu” file from the unzipped location.
6. The front display will now show NET UPDATING.
7. Wait around 10 minutes for the update to complete, do NOT power off during this time.
8. Once the update has finished as indicated by Update Complete on the front panel display perform a Factory Reset using the System Settings > Net Reset and System Settings > System Reset menu options *

Manual Check with Automatic Installation

1. Use a browser (chrome, firefox or safari is recommended) and navigate to the IP address of the unit (Menu > System Info).
2. Click “Device Settings”.
3. Click “Check” in the “Check for update” menu.
4. If an update is available you will informed and the download will start automatically.
5. Once downloaded the update will be installed. At this time the front display will now show NET UPDATING.
6. Wait around 10 minutes for the update to complete, do NOT power off during this time.
7. After update perform a factory reset using the System Settings > Net Reset and System Settings > System Reset menu options *

Automatic OTA

NOTE: The SA30 must be setup in Google Home for this option to work.

1. If the System Settings > OTA UPG option is enabled the SA30 will automatically download and install the update.
2. The download will occur overnight so in order for this to happen the unit must be powered on or left in NET STANDBY overnight.
3. If powered up the update will be installed immediately after download.
4. If left in NET STANDBY the update will be installed at next hard power cycle.
5. After update perform a factory reset using the System Settings > Net Reset and System Settings > System Reset menu options *
