No hires quality from streaming apps

Until end of July I used a laptop und HRA (a german streaming platform) to stream music in hires (24bit) quality to my SA30 (via cable and an external DAC) and all worked perfect.
As of August I changed to TIDAL. Now, when I select hires music on the TIDAL app of my smartphone it shows the correct data (eg 24bit/192), but when I stream the music to SA30 using TIDAL connect it shows the resolution of CD quality (41,1 kHz) only (same is also shown on SA30).
I also experienced, that musiclife and webclient (via airable) do not stream in hires quality.
In the meantime I did a system and net reset, but no change.
Nevertheless, hires music from local storage (eg USB) is adequately streamed in hires.
Now my question: How can I stream music from streaming services to my SA30 in hires quality?

Tidal seemingly changed streaming format for hi-res, they are no longer using MQA for that.
So now ball is on Arcam’s side, to update SA30 firmware to make hi-res on Tidal possible again.
According to some posts on this forum, Arcam seem to have promised that, but i will not believe till i see it

In the meantime I tried to stream TIDAL from my smartphone with Bubble UPnP and, surprisingly, hires music is also shown as hires on SA30 (eg 96 or 192 kHz). Is this really possible or is it just a fake?

It’s possible, as it works in a different way. Essentially it’s your phone that is connecting to Tidal, and streams it using DLNA/UPnP to SA30. But i would call it a dirty workaround, and not something really convenient for everyday use
I guess right now there’s only issue with Tidal.
So if you would use hi-res over DLNA, Roon (streaming Qobuz or your local library) it will work just fine. Also streaming using Chromecast should work, granted it’s “semi hi-res”, as this protocol is limited to 24/96 if i remember correctly. But am not really sure if it will work as hi-res using Chromecast and Tidal.
I’m using Amazon Music over Chromecast and it works ok as hi-res, of course having that 96KHz limitation.

Hi Felix, thank you for your help. I use music streaming just at home in my private net. So, I am happy with the Bubble UPnP solution so far. Because there is no limitation of resolution, it is the same as it ist shown on the smartphone. Besides I can also stream hires from my laptop using an external DAC. This works also fine.
Nevertheless I will wait till end of the year what will happen with TIDAL/ARCAM apps. Perhaps I will change to Qobuz also, because TIDAL is, in my opinion, degrading music in general, due to their system, how they put together different music titles according to one’s previous streaming activities. In addition most of their music titles are in CD quality only.

Apparently it will shortly be resolved.

So is the phone the source of the stream? You send the stream from the phone to the SA30? If so, that is probably the reason - might be worth checking what the phone can do…

I can stream from a Mac to my SA30 at the expected quality.

I think is has nothing to do with the smartphone (Huawei P30) itself. If I stream TIDAL hires music via USB to SA30, I get the resolution 96mHz (which is standard for a smartphone), but via TIDAL connect only 44,1 mHz. And - if I stream directly from PC to SA30 (within my homenet/by using cable) via TIDAL connect I also get 44,1 mHz only. But - if I use my external DAC to stream from the PC I get the resolution wich I have set in Windows 11 (eg 192 mHz).
Nevertheless - when I stream TIDAL via Bubble Upnp - the same resolution is shown on SA30 as on the smartphone.
Streaming via Chromecast is also limited to 44,1 mHz, so there must be a problem with the connectors.

I am sorry for the error. The resolution is not mHz but kHz!

hi, this is a known issue. Tidal used to use MQA for hi-res which SA30 fully supported. Last year Tidal changed to FLAC for hi-res which Arcam has refused to release software update to enable FLAC hi-res support. I have emailed them many times and they said they are not fixing it. I bought a Wiim streamer instead to connect to my SA30 so that I can get Tidal FLAC hi-res via Tidal Connect and then into my SA30

However, recently on this site a user posted to say that Arcam confirmed to him they are working on support Tidal FLAC hi-res with a software update later this year. Based on Arcam track record, I would not hold my breath waiting for the update!!

I think they will not update the SA30 within a short period of time, due to the fact, that SA35 and SA40 are planned to be introduced in autumn.
Nevertheless, and this is interesting for me, I can obviously stream TIDAL’s hires music via Bubble Upnp. At least - it shows the same hires resolution on the SA30 as in the TIDAL app on the smartphone. Is this a miracle? By using TIDALconnect the hires resolution is automatically and immediately reduced to 44,1 kHz!
Let’s see what will happen in autumn. Perhaps I’ll buy a SA35 or I’ll change back to my former streaming service HighResAudio, because they stream hires music only.
