Tidal without MQA

Dear Arcam Team,

Is there something going on restore the possibility to listen hi-res formats from Tidal? Since they withdraw MQA, headphones connected to my Samsung phone many times reproduce better sound then SA30.

TBD: 1.72

If you wish to speak with Arcam you are best to email them via the Arcam website. I don’t think they take part here any longer. HTH

If you do find an answer I’d be interested in hearing it, I was using Tidal for the 1st time via the amp last night and it seemed the highest was 44.1.

Yes, it works like this for about 3 months. When I bought it in March, music ware many times played in 192 kHz, even without MQA sign on the left side. Now even forgotten MQA files plays up to 44.1 maximum. If I obtaind some information, I’ll let you know.

Arcam are working on a firmware update so that it can play Tidal hires.

I’m the meantime if you use BubbleUPnP it streams Tidal 192khz, it’s a great app.

But a firmware update is also 100% incoming

Thank you. It looks, BubbleUPnP is temporary solution, I need. It was not easy to configure it, but finally i can enjoy HiRes music again. The difference is huge, and I consider license puchase. Do you know, how long I can enjoy full version for this $4 offered by GooglePlay? There’s no information about plans on the app page.

This is, what I got from Harman Customer Support:

Indeed that there has been a recent changes with Tidal services specifically moving away with MQA and moving towards their new highest tier HI-RES FLAC culminating in Tidal removing all MQA tracks on 24/07/2024. Currently the SA30 and other HDA units cannot benefit from the new format and will instead stream the next tier down.

Due to the diligent feedback from our customers such as yourself, we will be releasing an update that should allow our HDA units to stream HI-RES FLAC from Tidal. We have been diligently testing the software to minimise the risk introducing any new potential issues and we are happy with the progress made so far. We are fairly confident we may have the software finalised by the first quarter of 2025.

I believe, I can listen to HiRes Tidal till Easter.

Hello, I would recommend buying the license, it makes the app so much easier to use. It is a one time payment and so will be yours to own. I think a small price to pay for such a useful app. I think I will continue to use it to stream music from other sources even after Tidal is fixed.

I’m affraid it’s not a firmware. Firmware is signed with dot. Last version available from the device system is 1.72. Checking for newer version returns “No update available”.

That’s incorrect. A new version is available from the Arcam SA30 web page for download. It’s maybe not made it to OTA availability yet. The host version still remains at 1.72 but the network core is updated to v2057 to add the high res Tidal support

I’ve installed the new firmware manually (downloaded from Arcam website and installation via web interface).

Tidal Flac via Tidal Connect works like a charm.

Thanks for the information regarding the available firmware!
