Volume jump while using Dirac Live, ref#115

I thought I would try DIRAC again to day using the latest public released firmware and as when I posted back in January no matter what I try I can not turn down the master volume within the DIRAC software.

I connect from my Windows 10 laptop to the SA30. Open Dirac and it sees the amp and I click on it. I go to the page with all the volume controls. I can adjust all except the master volume. I have tried all number of different options on the amp but none solve it.

I have re powered the amp.
I have tried setting different inputs prior to starting the software.
I have tried enabling / disabling direct mode.
I have tried NET reset.

The amp works perfectly in other ways and DIRAC did work ok up to one of the earlier firmware updates last year.

I’ve run out of ideas but the fact it did work doesn’t make sense to me when DIRAC works with the latest firmware for everyone else.

Open to any more things I can try.

That’s really odd. Been calibrating multiple time on newer firmwares and never experienced this. Wonder what’s different?
What you could try:

  1. I think some time ago someone mentioned, that if he choses “IP” first, provide SA30 IP manually and connect after that, some issue disapeared (can’t remember what was that). I always have to provide IP manually, as otherwise DL app doesn’t see amp (probably because of proxy software on my work laptop). Maybe you can try that?
  2. Have you tried reinstalling DL app and removing all it’s data from you Windows user profile?

It was me who thought that entering the IP worked because it maybe did once. Today that made no difference.

I have tried uninstalling DIRAC and re installing it. I have also tried on my PC as well as my laptop. I’m not convinced it is anything to do with IT or networking as it had worked up to and including firmware V705.

Ok, so i did remember correctly, just didn’t remember who it was
To be honest i have no more ideas.
You see, the thing it, that for many people it works ok. I have never had problems with DL calibration master volume, no matter which firmware i used. That’s why i’m looking somewhere else.
Also don’t suppose it’s a faulty SA30 unit, as that would be the strangest failure i have seen, if everything else works, just one slider is missing in companion app.
Have you tried contacting Arcam support? Maybe they have some ideas?

So I don’t know definitively, but to me this shouts out that there must be a software difference on your computer compared to others that don’t have the issue

I don’t know exactly what the pre-requisites are for Dirac Live, I can’t see that in any documentation. Only says “Windows 10” and no more info than that. Really any run-time dependencies should be incorporated within the Dirac Live installer. I’d make sure you are using the latest v3.1.1

I would suggest also though you make sure that you have the latest updates applied for Windows, and also manually check you have the latest Microsoft .NET runtime (although not sure if in fact the app is a .NET application to be fair!). Download .NET (Linux, macOS, and Windows)

Failing that I would consider starting Windows in safe mode with networking enabled just to see if there is anything else in your environment that might be otherwise interfering.

By the way is there an Arcam control app for windows? If there is, can that control the amp volume successfully?

Thank you for your reply. If I roll the firmware all the way back to V705 it will instantly work without any changes to software or networking or versions of Dirac software so I am confident it is related to the amp in some way.

To be honest, the amp sounds good in my house anyway without Dirac but the other day I thought I would give it another go. If my only solution is to temporarily roll back the firmware to take my readings then re upgrade and load the filters I guess that’s what I will have to do. Fortunately I have kept a copy of all the previous firmwares.
