There are some remote related issues posted here. It is similar to one of the following issues? In some cases you have to press the AMP button first in order the SA30 responds to remote control commands. Hope this helps.

Scenario Perform the following steps: switch on Arcam SA30 version 1.21 is used go to menu, audio settings, set ‘max volume’-setting to 20 watch some TV (TV is playing through SA30=ok) press volume increase button on TV remote Actual result It requires 5 presses on the TV remote to increase the volume level one level. Expected result Every button press on the TV remote should increase the volume level one level.
