Right channel crackling and cutting out

Recently my SA30 seems to have developed an intermittent fault whereby the right channel will sometimes start to crackle and cut out. It will do it irrespective of what source input is selected. It is not the speaker nor its connection. The only way to resolve it is to put the amp into standby or turn it off fully and back on again.

Googling has suggested a capacitor on its way out but I’m not an electronics expert. Has any other owners experienced similar?

Find the posts about the speaker protection relay. It’s possible that is the trouble. If you are not handy with electronic repair, it would be best to let Arcam fix it. Good luck!!

Ken,
I have read that. I asked in the thread but I’ll ask you too. I have a can of deoxit and am prepared to have a go at spraying on the terminals but worry in case I might do more damage.

In the photos in the thread it looks like it’s just a case of removing one of the speaker connections inside the unit to get to the relay then removing the relay cover and giving it a spray on the contacts. Is that all there is and do I need to be wary of anything.

Thanks

Paul

If I was going to go through the trouble of removing the relay, I would just replace it. They are out of production but I found one on EBay nos for around 10 dollars if I remember correctly. If you do find one see if they have 2. If you can’t find one, then yes open it and use deoxit.

Let us know how it goes!

Oh I just noticed you are not removing the relay. Then yes, carefully remove the cover and spray with deoxit. You won’t hurt anything.

Personally I would find it easier to just replace the relay. But I have the proper tools.

Ken

It only does it occasionally at the moment and it might not be that anyway. If it gets worse I might try giving it a spray.I don’t have the ability to do more than that though.

When I had googled the scenario the results I was getting suggested a capacitor at fault but I did have that issue with an amp years ago and it was constant. The fact that putting the SA30 into standby or turning it off fully and back on again instantly fixes it until the next time makes me think it could be the relay.

In my opinion, this is the time to contact Arcam service.
