New Radia series

Well, we have good news. I just got an email from Arcam Support about an upcoming update. I saw the same reply given to other owners who have complained to Arcam posted on the abovementioned Facebook group.

Hi…

Thank you for your patience, we would like to apologise for the lack of communication from ourselves regarding the changes made by Tidal to their service specifically the move away from MQA and towards their new highest tier HI-REZ FLAC culminating in Tidal removing all MQA tracks on 24/07/2024.

Currently the ST60, SA30 and HDA AVRs cannot benefit from the new format and will instead default to streaming the next tier down, due to the diligent feedback from customers such as yourself we are pleased to announce that we will be releasing an update that should allow those models to stream HI-REZ FLAC from Tidal, currently we are planning on releasing this update in quarter four of this year.

Again, we do appreciate the feedback from our customers about the importance of adding Tidal’s HI-REZ FLAC to these models, if you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

I have learned a lesson and will NOT buy core audio equipment that depends on proprietary software updates ever again. I am headed back to dumb amps, dumb pre-amps, and a dedicated streamer with opensource software.

Harmon Kardon (and the new owners, Samsung) are trying to force us to upgrade because of software bit rot. It’s disgraceful, and shoddy, and just plain wrong.

Feel free to share my words on social media:

“Hey @Samsung pull your finger out of your an*** and update the software for legacy @arcamuk products like the brilliant Arcam SA30. The MusicLife App is hot garbage, and the Firmware is 3 years old, on a 10 year old base.

LPT: a $3,000 amplifier is not a “disposable” item, and all you do by creating software obsolescence is create resentment and damage your brand.

Create LOYALTY and LOVE and we /might/ buy some new toys…”

Absolutely. And let’s not forget the premature release of the SA 30 with faulty firmware. And of course some of us here beta tested firmware releases for Arcam with not so much as a thank you. Big dicks… :rage:
