JBL SA750 removed from JBL website; TV remote turns on amplifier

Hi people, I tried to find JBL SA750 support but the product is removed from JBL website. It is even not listed as old product???
My problem is - amplifier wakes up when I use TV remote. I tried all combinations of “remote code” and “network standby” but amp still turns on. Is there any fix for that? Thank you

Hi Minja,

Do you use the ARC connection between the TV and the amp? Because if you do, what you are experiencing is normal.

No, amp is not connected to TV in any way. When I press any key on Sony TV remote, amp wakes up and stays on forever!

Usually changing the Arcam remote code from the default would resolve this, but there are only two.

Can you change the Sony TV rather than changing the amp remote?

Where is your amp in relation to the TV? If is in a different part of the room it might be as simple as removing some reflective surfaces that might bounce the IR around,

Only similar case I’ve encountered is LG TV volume buttons turning on some LED strips and changing their colour, which isn’t a big deal obviously :slightly_smiling_face:

PS, depends on TV but you might have option to change remote to be Bluetooth rather than IR? What is the TV model?

I just thought of another option… don’t leave the amp on standby, save the planet and full power off :joy:

TV is Sony Bravia KD-55XH9096. I could not find how to change TV remote codes. It looks that Sony is using Bluetooth but also standard IR codes for common functions, both 16 and 19 :frowning:

Maybe consider using apps from your mobile to control the devices over Wi-Fi instead of ir remotes?

For example…. Arcam Control or music Life or even third party app.

This is a typical issue with the SA30.

There is a fix. Changing the remote code is the only option. Doing this via the menu doesn’t work. I sorted mine by wirking withba dedicated case handler. It took ages.

Arcam actually deny this is an issue and claimed recently when i spoke to them that the oroblem is with all the other brands and not them. Thiscwas rubish as the SA30 is newer than the Marantz AVR ir started operating.

Tobrepest. The only option is to phone then and gwt someone to reprogramme your remote key by key.

I got this from customer support - thea have no idea or they are acting that they do not know:

"Here are additional steps that you can do to find the problem:

Can you try powering off the TV and unplugging it. Then use the Sony TV remote on the amplifier and see if the remote activates it. Additionally can you guide me through the buttons that when pressed activates the SA750? When you press other buttons on the remote, does it affect the SA750 too?

Alternatively can you also try and restore the system to its factory default? To do this go to System Settings - System reset. Just a reminder this will reset the Amplifier to its Factory default meaning the previous customizations that you have on Dirac will be removed."

So far, the only way to stop this waking up is to mask IR sensor on amp. It is not a big deal when I stream and control it with tablet. But if I listen to vinyl then I have no remote…

I got an answer from “Harman Luxury”. There is a solution but it is deeply buried in a very lengthy email where they firstly accuse me that I am hallucinating.

Well, JBL SA750 and Arcam SA30 amps have two different standby modes: one standby mode is activated with POWER knob on the front panel, and another similar but different standby mode is activated with RED BUTTON on remote.

So when you use the power knob on the front panel to put amp in sleep, then the amp will respond to the Sony TV remote and wake up. Once woken up, the amp never goes to sleep. Which is very annoying because amp is heating a lot.

But when you use the amp’s remote to activate standby mode, the amp is then in deep sleep and WILL NOT respond to the Sony TV remote.

That is weird, isn’t it?

That’s not a solution. I wouldn’t even call it proper workaround.
When using “deep sleep” standby, you effectively disable network module of the amp. It means:

  1. It takes “ages” to wake up from standby
  2. You cannot just start streaming music to wake amp up. You first need to wake it up using remote, wait till it boots and only than you can start streaming.

They have just messed up remote part of the software and now denying existence of the bug, as they are not willing to fix/update anything in this amp anymore. Simple as that.
